Mentorship Experiences
North Dakota First Year Teacher Mentorship Program
I participated in an organization designed to help first year teachers within North Dakota to have access to an on-site professional mentor. I met with my mentor, Mrs. Marit Krogstad, a certified speech language Pathologist within my elementary school, on a weekly basis to discuss various school topics, gain insight on how to better provide for my students, and ask questions about anything I needed help with. Through this program, I also had the opportunity to observe veteran teachers outside of my school building to gain additional insight on how to effectively establish my classroom. My mentor also observed me and gave me feedback on how to improve my teaching skills.
University of Mary Emerging Leader's Academy Mentor Experience
Dr. Kimberly Marman, Chair of the Department of Education, University of Mary
Dr. Kim Marman, Chair of the Department of Education, has not only guided me through my studies as my academic advisor, but has demonstrated true leadership and professionalism in the world of education. I have been given opportunities to attend professional organization meetings of which Mrs. Marman is apart of as well as participated in fruitful one-on-one conversations where she has shared personal insights about teaching and the professional world.
Mrs. Tania Schroeder, First Grade Teacher, Grimsrud Elementary
I had the privilege of getting to know Mrs. Schroeder previous to my mentorship through my Block I practicum. After many hours spent in her classroom, Mrs. Schroeder has taught by example effective classroom management strategies, smooth transition skills, and how to appropriately implement the Common Core into today's classroom. Mrs. Schroeder demonstrates exceptional pedagogical content knowledge and is a natural leader within her classroom and school.
